Many travelers come to see its volcanoes. Others want to experience outstanding fishing. This little Latin American country offers a vacation for every budget. Certainly, there are spectacular hotels and resorts. 1. Experienced travelers can save 20 percent on accommodations by traveling off season

a. If you are on a budget, stay away during Peak Season. Christmas through New Years week (December 15-January 5) and Easter Week are Peak Season, not only for northern visitors but for Costa Ricans, as well. Schools here close for summer vacation in December, many governmental agencies and businesses shut down, and tens of thousands of men, women and children flock to the most popular beaches. They know the best bargains. You will not. Expect to pay the highest prices, but still way less than on the Continent or the U.S..

b. After Christmas comes High Season which coincides with winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Many vacationers visit Costa Rica between January through April because of the sunny tropical weather, a fact not lost on hotels and resorts. If you are a Snowbird, expect to be plucked a bit more during High Season, just like you would in sunny Florida.

c. Green (Low) Season typically has the best travel and accommodation bargains for those on a Costa Rica vacation. Many travelers mistakenly think that it rains every day though, in fact, most days are sunny and warm. When there are showers they frequently last only an hour or so and typically arrive in the afternoon or early evening. For the greatest budget travel deals, this is the time of year to visit. Students and families from the North are on summer vacation until mid-August but prices are good and accommodations available in most places. And, the best time for budget travel is September through mid-November when (if you ask) there are often discounts of 20-35 percent available. Over a seven day vacation, it is like getting two days free!

2. Save $25 a day when renting a car by planning ahead

A lot of tourists rent a car online before they come and are distressed to learn when they arrive that the rental agency plans to impose an additional fee of $25 or more per day for liability insurance! Experienced travelers never pay that money because it is unnecessary, provided three rules are observed. Rule 1: If your home vehicle policy provides liability coverage, that insurance covers car rentals in this Latin American country. Recommendation: bring a copy of the policy along with the fax and email of your insurance agent and save that money for your vacation. Rule 2: Many credit cards offer a little known benefit: liability insurance coverage for rentals when the card is used. Contact your credit card company before you travel for best results. Rule 3: Be polite but informed. If you don’t have the insurance info the first day, have your agent fax your coverage as quickly as possible. After all, it is your money. Budget travel can be fun, particularly when you do not pay for unnecessary insurance that you already have.

3. Pay with cash instead of credit and save another 5 percent or more

A lot of merchants encourage cash over credit cards and when asked if there is a discount for cash will offer 5 percent and sometimes much more. Ask “Que (pronounced “K”) es discuento por efectivo?” which means “What is the discount for cash?” Be sure the currency is new and not defaced with even a tiny tear. Many restaurants, merchants, and hostels cannot break a $100 bill so bring smaller denominations.

4. Do not accidentally pay two tips in a restaurant and save 10 percent

You will learn that many restaurants, particularly those frequented by foreign Costa Rica travelers, automatically include a 10 percent tip (called “servicio”) on a bill. They are required by law to note that on the menu but few pubs, cafes, or restaurants do so and so are rewarded by unknowing foreigners who leave a second tip. If you pay attention to your bill, you might save yourself paying two tips. And, remember, when in doubt, ask if the tip is included on the bill.

Buildings Of Note In Swindon

Swindon is an English town that was originally meant to be a city, and was designed to be a city, but was not granted city status. It was first a town as then had grand plans to be expanded in order to deal with the population overspill from London.

The Lady of the Hill is a beautiful church that was created in 1851. This was a replacement of the medieval parish which could not handle the influx of new residents. Inside are several memorials to the Goddard family and of particular note is the west window which shows a view of the hollyhocks of the lawn.

A distinctive building in town is the Renault building which has a very unique design and yellow roof. This building is Swindon’s most acclaimed as it was designed by Sir Norman foster and has won several different awards. Over time the Renault building has been home to a distribution center, restaurant, warehouse, offices and a show room.

The Link center is the town’s main leisure center. This building was built in 1985 in an environmentally friendly manner. Inside the leisure center contains a district library, ice rink, squash courts, Olympic size swimming pool, snooker hall, health suite, community center, craft studios, sports hall and drama studios.
